Introduction
The fire-resistant air duct system helps circulate exhaust gases out of the building or factory and provides necessary fresh air to the entire building space. In addition, a ventilation system is installed to help control the temperature, add oxygen, remove odors, moisture, harmful bacteria, and CO2.
Currently, the fire-resistant air duct system for fire fighting and prevention is strictly regulated and managed by the Ministry of Construction. Therefore, inspecting and accepting the EI Fire-resistant air duct system at each project is a mandatory condition that every contractor needs to fulfill.

Standard
QCVN 06:2021/BXD national technical regulation on fire safety for houses and works. Issued on May 19, 2021, Effective from July 5, 2021.
Section 9 Appendix D – The pipes and equipment of the smoke extraction system must be made of non-combustible materials with fire resistance limits. The pipes and equipment of the smoke extraction system must be made of non-combustible materials with a fire resistance limit of not less than:
- EI 120 - for smoke pipes and ducts located outside the range of the combustion chamber that the system serves; then, at positions where pipes and smoke channels pass through walls and floors of the fire compartment, normally open fire prevention valves must not be installed;
- EI 60 - for smoke pipes and ducts within the scope of the serviced combustion chamber, when used to exhaust smoke from enclosed garages;
- EI 45 - for vertical smoke pipes and ducts within the scope of the serviced combustion chamber, when smoking products of combustion directly in that service area;
- EI 30 - for other cases within the fire compartment serviced.
Structure
Fire-rated ductwork essentially has the same function as a normal duct. It is an extremely important part of ventilation and air conditioning systems but is covered with a non-combustible material.

APPLICATION
Determining which ventilation system to use Fire-resistant air duct brings many benefits to the investor. Because it helps to save costs, it can also ensure that the ventilation system works well in the event of a fire. The following ventilation systems are deemed to require the use of an Ei fire-resistant duct for optimum benefit:
